I am so excited to go spend this weekend in the Washington DC area. We are heading down for a weekend getaway and staying in Alexandria, VA so we can be close to the cherry blossom festivities all weekend long. Brian’s sisters also live in the area so we hope to get a little extra family time in as well. I am also hoping this warm weather stays through out the weekend and we get to spend a well longed for weekend outdoors.

We timed it pretty well so we will get to see this when we visit:

I really hope that I am not the only girl who once in a while looks at her man and becomes envious when they can throw on a pair of jeans and a basic button down and look so put together and ready to head out. When I try to do that I need to throw on a belt, some jewelry, go through 4 different pairs of jeans to find one that works well with the shirt and then deal with my hair, shoes & etc. Sound familiar?

I came across this company which has the most gorgeous shirts and am so excited to get my first shipment. I am hoping a few of these added to my wardrobe will help my morning routine go a little quicker.

1 Year!

Both of Us

I cant believe it has been a year since our first post went up! Even though we have been a bit busy the last few months, overall there was a lot of work that went into this site and we are happy to get all the readers that we do.

Instead of being sappy and going into all the wonderful things that have happened over the year we just want to say a big THANK YOU!

Have you heard about this now fully funded Kickstarter card game? Brian asked that we invest a few months ago and I finally got around to actually reading into what we bought. It not only got 100% funded, it got 10,000% funded. For a card game that seems pretty crazy right? I have to say I cant wait to play it, the game looks pretty funny and entertaining and I bet it will be the next Cards Against Humanity (which was also funded through Kickstarter). What do you think?

The game was created by Matthew Inman (from The Oatmeal), Elan Lee (from Xbox) & Shane Small (Marvel). Its quirky but genius and so far seems pretty simple to play.  Read more…

It has been a crazy few months since our vacation and the engagement and I thought it would be nice to share my process so far and the other excuses on why I have been so sporadic with posts since then.

Right away Brian and I agreed that we wanted something simple and relaxed. We quickly picked a date (9/12/15!), a venue for the ceremony and a venue for the reception. I found a dress fairly quickly, a rental company to work with and we organized our guest list seamlessly and sent save the dates. Brian was being a huge support and helped with all the big decisions.

Yet somehow I became the crazy bride to be, I spent weeks barely sleeping, and stressed over the smallest things, like whether we should use clear or white plates and whether we should have blue or white napkins (I know crazy right?)! I started getting frustrated because while I was stressing like crazy Brian had no preference on these little things and I could not understand why. After a few more weeks with tension of discussing anything wedding related without freaking each other out we did the smartest thing possible, we sat down and talked. We talked about all the exciting events ahead and what that means to each of us, but then we also talked about what was bothering each of us and how we can communicate better so that we can be back to our normal happy couple. After that it was so much easier to relax, talk to each other and most importantly remember that the only really important part of this whole wedding planning is we are getting MARRIED!

Now I make lists, I go down the lists when I have time and I try to check some things off when I can. If there is something that I feel would be important to Brian I make sure I go over with him as well, if not I try to be bold and decide on my own or get some friends opinions and then I let Brian know. This way we both are on the same page with the wedding but it is less stressful to make decisions for either one of us. Now things go so much more smoothly, I sleep normally and we are much happier and relaxed.

Have you gone through this issue with your fiance or husband?

If you are married, or getting married, what are your best tips that you can share?

Brian and I often joke around on how it is acceptable to be grumpy once your a retired old person and that Brian is very excited to let loose and be able to do that. Yesterday he sent over this awesome comic by Wes & Tony from Amazing Super Powers that I could not stop laughing at because it is so a Brian moment to be.

I think this is pretty common for northeasterners, but I am finally coming down with the blues. When it first starts getting colder in the fall I just look forward to Thanksgiving and then the holidays in December which makes time go by pretty quickly and the never ending cold and shorter days go unnoticed. Then January hits and every year I do my best to stay cheery. Getting engaged and starting on wedding planning helped this January fly by but February hit me hard.

I went to the blog world to find some solutions and overall it has helped a lot. I would love to share some of the tips and tricks that have helped me:

Playing Set (I am addicted and now even play on my phone)

Relaxing with some special hot chocolate

Some spa time in the shower

Basking in the glow of a Mood Light

Exercise! (If your not in the mood for anything intense, even some calm yoga breathing will make you feel 10x better)

Go out on a special date (Its Restaurant Week in NYC!)

Light up the room

My favorite: Bake and then bakesomemore (it will also warm up your apartment)!

How about you, what are some of your tips and tricks for getting through the winter?

Do you feel like all of your interactions with friends and family have become a bunch of texts and emails? I did not even notice it until recently when I started needing help with wedding planning. Texts are great for quick messages or little reminders but I have started to really enjoy spending even just a few minutes catching up on the phone. I was enjoying these conversations more and more that I started looking into getting myself a little stationary so I can start writing letters and show those that are most important to me that I took the extra effort to write a note to them.

Then Brian and I started looking for wedding stationary and wow was I blown away by everything out there. I am pretty happy that both of us wanted to go with something fairly simple so picking the stationary went quickly and smoothly. However for myself the options are limitless and I cant decide.

Garden & Gun wrote a great article on the etiquette of stationary for both him and her and what should be sitting on your desk. I thought it was a great starter to help figure out what I should order for me, and maybe Brian too 🙂 Read more…
