Perspectives of a Lady, Gentleman & Dane

Music Monday Archive

Hannah Sheflyand

I am definitely in the wedding mood especially after spending all weekend looking for first dance songs and figuring out a playlist… blah… blah… blah…

I am in love with Joshua Radin’s music and super excited about his new album Onward & Sideways. I was going to post one of his new songs but found this cute video that was taped on Ellen DeGeneres’ show that shows the honesty of what he sings.

What do you think? Good addition to our wedding list?

How was your weekend?

Hannah Sheflyand

I hope everyone has had an amazing holiday break. Brian and I had a whirlwind of fun visiting family and then getting away for a few days, I will share a lot more tomorrow.

We spent a lot of our time driving to and from family and after running out of podcasts we switched over to pandora and our music collection. My favorite was listening to She & Him’s album, Classics, which is filled with soothing remedies and perfect for holiday listening (their Christmas album is pretty awesome too!). I was really happy to find out they produced a very cute music video with one of my favorite songs “Stay Awhile.”

What do you think?

How were your holidays and New Years?

Hannah Sheflyand

How was your weekend? Are you ready for this crazy week ahead? We tried our best to get as much rest as possible since we will be going away for Christmas and then away again for New Years.

I have really been enjoying moody soulful songs lately and of course this song always come to mind when I want to listen to that type of music. It is somehow the perfect mix of depressing yet sexy. I also feels it works great on any holiday music list you might have.

What is your favorite kind of music to listen to during the holidays? I have also been listening a lot to She & Him’s new album, Classics, and their Christmas album, A Very She & Him Christmas. I would highly recommend them if you need to add to your holiday playlist.

What are your plans for the week?

Hannah Sheflyand

I am over all a bigger fan of raspy deep mens voices in songs, but for some odd reason the last few weeks I have been continually listening to a variety of womens vocal songs. There is something almost soothing about it that I enjoy in these cold (almost) winter days that I can listen easily with a big hot cup of tea.

This song and all of Lera Lynn’s music has been on repeat in my house, but Sarah Jarosz and Amanda Shires pops up a lot too!

What is the type of music you listen to when you need some time to just relax and stay warm?

Hannah Sheflyand

How was your weekend? We have been scrambling around trying to get ready for all the fun this holiday season and its coming up on us so quickly. I love this time of the year, not for the cold, but because everyone seems a little happier, everything is a little more decorated and brightly lit and I get to spend more evenings in bed with lots of hot chocolate. I also like all the online sites filled with gift guides, thoughts on what the holidays mean to individuals and I secretly enjoy those top 40 lists of everything 2014 at the end of the year.

Even though I am not a huge fan of pop, I do love DJ Earworms end of the year mash ups because they give a little reminder of some of the music that came out over the last year and the memories of listening to those songs as well. Example: “All about that bass” is a song that Brian and I always laugh about because he hears it at least once every time at the gym and it is driving him crazy, while I love that song and still have not heard it played at the gym even once.

So even if you are not into Pop I hope you enjoy this little reminiscence and have a little dance party in your head to start Monday off properly, and if you want to reminisce a little more go back one more year and listen to his mashup of 2013!

I was listening to The National radio station on Pandora with Brian and this song came on and half way through Brian and I looked up at each other and were impressed with what we were listening to. This is why I love Pandora, I probably would have never heard this song otherwise.

Milky Chance is a german folk group made up of Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch. They met in high school in a music class and have been playing music together ever since. I think I might be the last to hear of them since their 2015 North America Tour is practically sold out.

What do you think of this song? Catchy, right?

Hannah Sheflyand

I heard this song for the first time over this weekend and fell in love. The minute I was home I jumped right on to my computer to look for more. So far all of Sarah Jarosz’s music has been heaven to  my ears. I love her folk rhythm and the quiet cello, guitar and fiddle playing in the background for most of the songs. I am obviously not the first to fall in love with this singer as she just received 2 grammy nominations as well. Can you believe this girl is only 22?

If you like this song you should take a listen to the rest of her most recent album Build Me Up From Bones.

This amazing band is from Toronto. I first heard this song in the movie Like Crazy and since then I have been a huge fan and love everything they make. When Brian and I first started dating we had a bit of a clash on our music style, but funny enough, we both have heard about the Stars before and both really enjoy listening to them even though neither of us usually like this style of music. This song and music video is from their album Five Ghosts (and also an awesome vinyl collection). However the band has also just recently come out with a new album No One is Lost, which is equally amazing.

For a small band they have produced a good amount of music videos and I find theirs to be refreshing since they don’t focus on the band them self and are rarely in the videos. Instead they use their music and display a story, which is more of what I imagine in my head when I am listening to music, and enjoy watching too.

What do you think? Isn’t this song so sad and sweet?

Thanks to everyone’s help, the Kickstarter for the new Palaxy Tracks album was successful and Brandon will be releasing it some time early 2015.  The album is on pre-order at www.palaxytracks.com in either digital or vinyl format.  It’s funny how tapes and cd’s have been left by the wayside while vinyl remains the physical alternative to a digital download.

As a bonus Brandon has released a music video for the track The Afterlives, available now on their website and youtube.  That’s the good news.  The bad news, I can see how the video isn’t all that approachable for a general audience.  It’s basically a bad vhs video of a woman in zombie make up which skips around a lot.  So if you’re into the artsy vibe of it, check it out and enjoy, if not I’ll understand if you just want to let it play in another window while you watch something more pleasant.

If you missed it here is my first post on Palaxy Tracks.

I am back from Italy! It was great trip but I am very jet lagged and I hope you dont mind I keep this post short. I promise to write a lot about my traveling adventures once I am back to my regular self.

I find it amazing that even though this originally is from back in the 50’s it is still so popular in Italy. I picked this song, because on our trip, almost any time and any where we stopped and music was playing this song came on. We heard this song so much I was slowly getting sick of it, but then of course, it kept getting stuck in my head. Now that we are back, I am already nostalgic for our trip and needed to play it at least 3 times already today.

We heard a lot of great live music, which usually I am not a big fan of, but I am slowly changing my mind, and now I am on a search for good vinyls of live jazz. Any recommendations? Are you a fan of live or foreign music?

I feel it is a genre I really need to open myself up to more.
