Brian and I are off on a family vacation to Woodstock, Vermont! I have actually never been to Vermont and am very excited to visit a new state. Brian spent many summers there with family and we will be joining his parents and his older sister and husband up in a house they rented for a week.

I am excited for a few days of quiet relaxation, and time with Brian and his family, but I am also looking forward for the long drives there and back. Its 5 hours each way and the perfect time to catch up with Brian, listen to podcasts/music and enjoy the scenic sites out the window. I also feel like it gives the perfect time to just unwind from all the stress and actually arrive at our destination relaxed and ready to enjoy the vacation.

The picture at the top of the post and this one above are of the the house we are staying at and the property surrounding it. It is the Fern Brook House located on Birch Hill Farm right outside of town.

The property is gorgeous and I hope to spend most of my free time exploring, unfortunately Charlie does not get to join us this time.

The girls are planning on a spa day at the Woodstock Inn & Spa… I cant wait for my body wrap and relaxing massage. With us being preoccupied, the boys are planning on spending the day outdoors at a shooting range.

We plan on mostly cooking at the house since it comes with a beautifully equipped large kitchen. However we did make reservations for two restaurants that offer farm to table dining experience, Simon Pearce & Cloudland Farm.

However, it is a vacation and sometimes its good to have a break from the kitchen, so we did make reservations for two restaurants that offer a farm to table dining experience, Simon Pearce & Cloudland Farm.

The rest of our time will probably consist of lounging around reading and relaxing and at the lake swimming and kayaking.

I don’t think we will have easily accessible internet access and I promised Brian I would stay away from the computer as much as possible, so I will not be updating on the blog the rest of the week. If you have some time, I hope you browse through some of our earlier posts, and I will be back at it again next Monday with a week full of posts on great choices to spend a weekend away from NYC.

Hannah’s foot is finally healed up and we can now go out and explore. Its been a long few months where we couldn’t go hiking which means my exercise was mostly at the dog park and running with Brian. As long as I am exercised every day I am a happy puppy but I especially love running off leash out in the wild. We had the opportunity to spend last weekend up in the Catskills and had a good time just relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Hannah took a lot of photos and I wanted to share them, especially the many she took of me. Hope you enjoy!

How cute is this video explaining the World Cup games? Brian and I watched it over and over and over and couldn’t stop laughing.

Any plans for your weekend? Have you been following the World Cup?

I am planning to spend the weekend in the Catskill Mountains relaxing with the cooler weather and hopefully going on my first hike after my foot surgery. I think Charlie has really been missing exploring and being off-leash, and I have missed taking cute pictures of her (like here). Unfortunately Brian is stuck at home studying. I will be back in time on Sunday to watch the finale for the World Cup together.

What are your plans for memorial day weekend? Brian and I are heading to Montreal this weekend. We are going to take a lazy Saturday morning drive up there and most likely spend the rest of the day being sluggish especially since its supposed to rain.

Sunday & Monday will be filled with boutique shopping, food and relaxed biking.

Anyone visit Montreal recently and have some advice for places to see?

Hope everyone has a lovely long weekend.

I always feel excited when Friday comes around. During the week its hard to have too many plans but the weekend is just a blank canvas. With this crummy rainy weather I have been having a craving to just go away. I would love to go back to Charleston but I don’t think we will have a chance to visit again until next spring.

Have you ever checked out travelzoo? Whenever I have the itch to travel I like just browsing through all the great deals on vacations and dream about going on one. My favorites for this week:

For the first time in a while, Brian and I have a weekend with no planned tasks or events so we decided to go spend the weekend at my moms home upstate, where we can just browse through farmers market, take Charlie for a hike, and just relax and enjoy the fresh air. Do you have a busy weekend or have some time to just relax & breathe?

I wanted to get some more inspiration for animal photography after my hike with Charlie the other day and came across this adorable website filled with photographs of Maddie on Things.

Its so inspiring to see such beautiful photos and a very well behaved dog. I wish Charlie would stand so still, maybe some training is due for her in the near future.

The photographer behind all these photos, Theron Humphrey, also worked on a great project called Why We Rescue. Check out all the amazing photos he has to offer.

I made a promise to myself and to Charlie that once the weather was warmer we would try to get out and move more. Especially since injuring my foot I have let laziness take control of my exercise habits. So even though it was a rainy few days, I decided to make the best of it and off to Ramapo Reservation we went, and in the end was very happy that we did.

Here are some photos of our rainy adventure:

We found this set up during our hike, Charlie like hopping though it.

I cannot wait until I have the chance to go to the Kentucky Derby! There is something just fascinating about this racing tradition filled with beautiful race horses, impressive fashion statements and great food and drinks.

The Kentucky Derby is held every year on the first Saturday in May which closes the 2 week long Kentucky Derby Festival, held in Louisville, Kentucky. If the derby was only about the race, it would be over in just about 2 minutes; of course there is so much more! Read more…

After my last dog, Maggie, passed away, I would long for another pet companion, but the most often would be when I lived in Ventura and would venture to the beach. So of course once Charlie was in the picture we went on many many beach trips. It was very sad when we went on our last beach trip before moving to the east coast, especially because I was afraid we would not find as many dog friendly beaches out here.
