I am so excited to go spend this weekend in the Washington DC area. We are heading down for a weekend getaway and staying in Alexandria, VA so we can be close to the cherry blossom festivities all weekend long. Brian’s sisters also live in the area so we hope to get a little extra family time in as well. I am also hoping this warm weather stays through out the weekend and we get to spend a well longed for weekend outdoors.

We timed it pretty well so we will get to see this when we visit:

I went to the farmers market over the weekend looking for some new plants but there were not a lot of options.

I did find some organic herb plants and since I had to work with soil to plant the herbs into new pots, I decided it was time to repot my older plants as well. I also helped my mom work on her garden boxes which were filled with kale, garlic, tomatoes and squash. I never believed people who told me getting my hands dirty in soil is therapeutic… but they were right. I felt very calm and relaxed after my weekend filled with playing in the soil.

All my new herbs that I am very excited about: arugula, chives, basil & more

I am happy with how the window looks now with all the extra green. I am super excited though to have plants that I can incorporate into the kitchen. Hopefully I will find some more herb plants in the next few weeks and squeeze some more room on the ledge.

Its such a gloomy rainy day out but the weather is finally warmer and the flowers outside are all blooming. I am starting to feel like my window ledge does not have enough plants & flowers to flaunt from inside. These are some of the flowers I am thinking of planting once my foot is healed and I can haul myself to the store. What do you think?

Cape primrose- blooms all year round and comes in pink, white, purple or red. I really like these purple ones.

Peace Lily- supposed to be easy to take care of and I like the tropical look of the leaves.

Oxalis- The fragile pink bloom are gorgeous. I think it will bring a lot of great color to my room.

Flowering Maple- beautiful flowers but I am afraid it will be too big for my window ledge.

Have you tried having any of these plants indoors? Have any success with other plants that you would recommend?

What are your plans for memorial day weekend? Brian and I are heading to Montreal this weekend. We are going to take a lazy Saturday morning drive up there and most likely spend the rest of the day being sluggish especially since its supposed to rain.

Sunday & Monday will be filled with boutique shopping, food and relaxed biking.

As long as the weather holds up we will do a lot of biking. Montreal is the perfect biking city (pic from Bassibikes)

Anyone visit Montreal recently and have some advice for places to see?

Hope everyone has a lovely long weekend.

Living in the New York City area all my life, I didn’t notice how much lighter colors were missing in my wardrobe, until we visited South Carolina. Now I am always trying to find new pieces to add to my wardrobe that will add some pop. I am in love with this blazer from Zara and feel it is perfect for the spring.

What do you think? Do you ever feel that just one piece can change your whole wardrobe?

I always feel excited when Friday comes around. During the week its hard to have too many plans but the weekend is just a blank canvas. With this crummy rainy weather I have been having a craving to just go away. I would love to go back to Charleston but I don’t think we will have a chance to visit again until next spring.

Have you ever checked out travelzoo? Whenever I have the itch to travel I like just browsing through all the great deals on vacations and dream about going on one. My favorites for this week:

For the first time in a while, Brian and I have a weekend with no planned tasks or events so we decided to go spend the weekend at my moms home upstate, where we can just browse through farmers market, take Charlie for a hike, and just relax and enjoy the fresh air. Do you have a busy weekend or have some time to just relax & breathe?

I made a promise to myself and to Charlie that once the weather was warmer we would try to get out and move more. Especially since injuring my foot I have let laziness take control of my exercise habits. So even though it was a rainy few days, I decided to make the best of it and off to Ramapo Reservation we went, and in the end was very happy that we did.

Here are some photos of our rainy adventure:

I cannot wait until I have the chance to go to the Kentucky Derby! There is something just fascinating about this racing tradition filled with beautiful race horses, impressive fashion statements and great food and drinks.

The Kentucky Derby is held every year on the first Saturday in May which closes the 2 week long Kentucky Derby Festival, held in Louisville, Kentucky. If the derby was only about the race, it would be over in just about 2 minutes; of course there is so much more! Read more…

After my last dog, Maggie, passed away, I would long for another pet companion, but the most often would be when I lived in Ventura and would venture to the beach. So of course once Charlie was in the picture we went on many many beach trips. It was very sad when we went on our last beach trip before moving to the east coast, especially because I was afraid we would not find as many dog friendly beaches out here.
